As the most eminent independent, family-run Champagne producer, Louis Roederer, established in 1776, remains at the pinnacle of the region. Currently, seventh-generation family member Frédéric Rouzaud and Champagne maestro Jean-Baptiste Lécaillon direct this prestigious House. The House boasts a sprawling 242-hectare vineyard, a large part being premium Grand Cru plots, which meets two-thirds of their grape requirements.

In 2020, Roederer innovated by replacing Brut Premier with "Collection," facilitating unique identification of non-vintage blends each year. This ensured sustained freshness despite global warming's impact on the Champagne region. Today, Cristal is universally esteemed as the world's most decorated prestige cuvée champagne.

Cristal's genesis traces back to 1876 when Russia's Tsar Alexander II requested a personal cuvée. His demand for a clear bottle led to the birth of Cristal, the first prestige cuvée. Today, "Cristal Estates" spans over 45 plots contributing to each vintage.

2013 marked the second vintage of Cristal cultivated entirely from biodynamically farmed grapes. The year saw a late growing cycle, with a harsh winter followed by a cool, late spring. Thankfully, a sunny, warm summer allowed the Pinot Noirs and Chardonnays to ripen optimally, leading to an elegant, fresh vintage.
