How to Turn Your Garden Into a Home Spa
You know that feeling when you stay somewhere with a really good sauna and come home wishing you could have the same thing in your own garden? It’s easy to think of a sauna as something you enjoy on holiday or at a nice hotel, but there’s no real reason it has to be.
If you have the space outside, creating your own little place to switch off can be much more achievable than you might think. You don’t need a huge garden or an elaborate setup either. A sauna, somewhere to cool down and a comfortable spot to sit afterwards could be all you need to make the garden somewhere you genuinely look forward to spending time in.

Working With the Garden You Already Have
The nice thing about adding a sauna to your garden is that you can work with the space you already have. You don't need to completely redesign everything around it. It’s really just about finding a spot that feels right.
If you have a smaller garden, a tucked away corner behind a hedge or fence can make a sauna feel private and cosy. If you have more room to play with, you might want something a little bigger, perhaps with a glass front so you can sit inside and still feel connected to the garden.
Before deciding where it should go, spend a bit of time outside and see how you actually use the garden. Where does the sun come in the evening? Which areas feel private? Where would you want to sit after using the sauna?
It’s these little things that can make the difference between simply having a sauna in the garden and creating somewhere you genuinely enjoy being.
Hot and Cold Therapy
As we mentioned in our recent blog about hot and cold therapy, there are plenty of ways to enjoy the benefits of heat and cold. But you certainly don't need a cold plunge to enjoy having a sauna at home.
For some people, the sauna will be more than enough. You can step outside afterwards, have a cool shower, sit in the fresh air for a while or simply enjoy being warm before heading back inside.
If you do like the idea of adding some cold therapy, there are plenty of ways to do it. A cold plunge can sit alongside the sauna if you have the space, but a cold shower works just as well if you want to keep things simple.
The beauty of having a sauna at home is that you can make it work however you like. You don't have to follow a particular routine or turn it into a whole wellness ritual. Sometimes you might spend twenty minutes in the sauna and then sit outside with a drink. Other times you might want to add a cold plunge and really make an evening of it.
When it comes to the sauna itself, a barrel sauna can be a great option for a smaller garden, while a cube sauna with a glass front can work beautifully if you have a little more space. It really comes down to what suits your garden and how you want to use it.

What Actually Makes You Use Your Home Spa (Hint: It's Not the Sauna)
It’s easy to focus on the sauna itself, but some of the smaller details are what will make you want to use the space regularly.
Having somewhere nearby to keep towels and robes means you aren't running back into the house every time. A dry place to change is useful too, especially when the weather isn't playing along. And somewhere comfortable to sit afterwards can make all the difference.
You might add a simple bench, a couple of chairs or even a little outdoor seating area. It doesn't need to be anything fancy. You just want somewhere you can sit for a few minutes and enjoy being outside before you go back to whatever you were doing.
These are the things that make the space feel less like you've simply put a sauna in the garden and more like you've created somewhere you actually want to spend time.
Why Have a Sauna at Home?
For us, that's really the best thing about having a sauna at home. You don't have to wait for a holiday or book a weekend away to enjoy it.
If you've had a long day, you can go out into the garden and switch off for a while. If you have a quiet Sunday morning, you can start the day in the sauna. Even on an ordinary Tuesday evening, it's there if you fancy it.
Not having to make a big occasion out of it is probably what makes having a sauna at home so appealing. It's something you can enjoy whenever you want, without having to plan around it.
So if you've ever come home from a hotel or weekend away wishing you could have a sauna like that at home, it's worth looking at your own garden a little differently. You might already have the space to create something you'll end up using far more often than you expect.
